II Edition

The second Città di Ravenna International Youth Mosaics Biennial closed on Sunday 28th April having achieved excellent results. Thousands of visitors to the Esp Shopping Centre showed enthusiastic appreciation for this new avenue opened up with a show in a place not normally perceived as exhibition space.

Dozens of decidedly fascinating, entertaining and seductive mosaics traced the new directions possible for young international mosaic art with works that were surprising for both quality and novelty, demonstrating the validity of RavennArte's initiative. Once again the event was sponsored by the Esp Shopping Centre, Copura and the Banca Popolare di Ravenna, with the patronage of the Environmental and Architectural Heritage Service, the Ravenna Municipality and Provincial Administrations and the Emilia-Romagna Regional Administration.

The judges were Cetty Muscolino, representative of the Environmental and Architectural Heritage Service, Isotta Fiorentini, president of the International Mosaicists' Association, Angelo Cangemi, artist and teacher at the Monreale Art School, Patrik Macquaire, promoter of the Picassiette International Mosaic Arts Competition (Chartres), the young designer Alberto Biagetti and Sabina Ghinassi, art critic and representative of RavennArte. They awarded five prizes (one more than envisaged, due to a tie for third place):

1st prize: Frank Guidi Passerella - Caxa de Tomato - 3615 euros offered by the Esp Shopping Centre.
"For its free expression of the great potential of mosaics in line with the trends of young contemporary art".
2nd prize: Greta Guberti - La Letizia - 2582 euros offered by Copura.
