The State-owned Mosaic Art School "G. Severini" of Ravenna was founded in the '60s as an institute specifically conceived to teach mosaics.

Credit for the establishment of such a school has been unanimously given to the commitment of a group of mosaic lovers who had been working in the Ravenna area for some time.

The citizens of Ravenna agreed with enthusiasm to the idea of opening a mosaic school in the heart of the town.
The aim of the School has always been to train generations of mosaicists who could preserve and renew the town's historical heritage.
The school teachers have constantly matched their teachings with technical and artistic innovations.

The town exhibits a great deal of works designed and carried out by teachers and students from the School:

  1. decoration panels in the waiting-room and information office of Ravenna railway station;
  2. the war memorial in S. Massimiano square of Punta Marina Terme, carried out in co-operation with the Municipality of Ravenna;
  3. panel at INAIL head office of Ravenna;
  4. decorations at the hanging gardens of Ravenna's Provincial Administration office;
  5. flooring of the "Pallavicini-Baronio" rest home in Ravenna;
  6. mosaic works based on projects by artists such as G. Severini and B. Ceccobelli;

A lot of other works have been carried out all over Italy, also in co-operation with the National Archaeological and Historical Heritage Service.
